I have never owned a BMW m3, nor have I spent much time in a pair of what enthusiasts call ‘VADER’ seats. However, I have given these Seats from Saab 50K miles of my butt time. Sometimes 1500 miles at a time, sometimes sideways they were ever supportive. I would never leave these AERO seats (by recaro) with the aches, tight joints or numb butt that my current A6 gives me on a 2 hour trip. ( i’m older too, so maybe its me)
What about you? What is the best place you have ever enjoyed sticking your derriere for long hauls to wherever? Which factory seats were so good you basically forget they are even there?

Second on your suggestion. I read your title before I saw the picture, and instantly thought of the ‘93 9000 Aero I used to have. Those seats were the absolute best.

Volvo XC70 seats, the best I've had so far.

I generally don’t get numbbutt until about 5-6 hours driving my Benz W124, and I’ve done 18 hours in a 24 hour span without getting rekt, so those seats have my endorsement. They’re surely not the best out there, but they definitely work.

Personal fav, 2004 Volvo XC70 front seats. 2008 and up XC70's are also very very very nice! But this older model front seats are still my benchmark

If it’s not the couches GM put in the GMT800 trucks and SUVs, it’s the sport seats in my E36 M3. After a multi-hour drive my back or butt didn’t hurt at all and the seats never felt hard. The thigh extensions probably helped a ton too with my long legs.

I have owned two Volvos and stand by them as the best seats in the business.

The Lexus LX450 had the best seats I ever sat in.

1988 Ford Econoline-150. Comfy, couch like captain chairs with two - count ‘em two - armrests. So good. I miss those.

Gotta be something from the mid 70's. Back when they could go big and not care as much about safety.

I really enjoyed the driver’s seat of my 1996 Thunderbird. However, I think it was not so much due to the seat itself, but the way it was arranged with the steering wheel, armrest, and shifter. Everything was laid out just right.

As logansteno said, either GMT-800 truck seats or the seats in my S600 . I got out after a 7 hour drive feeling like I had just started. I’ve heard BMW X5's are comfy too.

My 85 Fiero had great seats. I used to make the 2-3 hour trip home from college on a regular basis in that car and it never left me numb or sore, even with the rough ride.
My Mazda3 is pretty great, too. I’ve spent about 40 hours a week behind the wheel of that car since I bought it in September and I’ve never been uncomfortable.

Front buckets, Malibu Maxx SS. Wunderbar. Back bench was good too.

I’ve had a lot of seat time in older luxobarges when I was younger. 80's Town Cars and 70's Cadillac Fleetwoods were always pretty nice.
For a more modern vehicle, the current F150 is a nice place to be. Not only are the seats pretty good, there is GREAT legroom, which is hard to find in some cars.

i will echo s600 did from Arkansas to Yellowstone and even the

Renault do really good seats in most of their cars. My Twingo is surprisingly comfortable considering how cheap it is. Drove a Peugeot 107 after it and it was like going from my sofa to a tumble dryer full of rocks.

The most comfortable car seat I’ve ever sat in was in a Honda Ridgeline.

My great-grandmother had an ‘81 or ‘82 Eldorado. Even that shade of the full 70s opulence was impressive to me in early childhood.

I had one of these and quite liked it other than the gas mileage. Super low miles (80k) old it in 2013 since I would only put less than 5k miles on it a year, I don’t really regret it since the guy paid my (somewhat lofty) asking price of 12k.

E92 M3 seats. Part of the reason I love/bought that car. Although that V8 certainly has something to do with it too.

1997 Volvo S90, by far. Second best, and probably the most comfortable driving position: a 1992 Acura Vigor.
Concerning BMW sport seats: I’ve owned or regularly driven five BMWs (an E30, an E34, an E36, and two E46s including an M3), and while the seats are all probably above average, all five always left me aching after long road trips. In fact, the sport seats in my E46 M3, while extremely supportive in hard cornering, might be the worst offenders, although that might have more to do with the harsh ride than any problem with the seat design.

My Saab 900 had by far the most comfortable seats until we bought our S40. I think the Swedes have an eye for this comfort thing

The obvious answer is Volvo. However, the leather seats in my mom’s ‘05 Maxima come pretty close.

This is relevant to my interests. I'm looking to replace my Subaru, whose seats were designed by the most hateful engineers known to man.

pretty much any Volvo seat post 1998, but especially the leather barcaloungers in the post 2008 60/70/90 series vehicles. I understand they don’t fit some people because of the length of the seat cussion, but for my height and leg length I don’t think there’s a more comfortable place to put your ass in an automobile. And that includes the back seat of modern Rolls

Our 2000 Dodge Caravan cloth seats are the comfiest we’ve had in the family. Personally, I loved my ‘94 LeBaron seats more than my other cars, including my 7-series and Jeep Overland.
Worst seats: Any cloth seats we’ve had from Honda. ‘13 CRV, ‘14 Fit, and ‘07 Accord are back-spasm inducing. Literally :(

04 CLK430.
The car overall was so incredibly underwhelming, the radio is the most aggravating thing ever, but the seats? Id have them made into lounge chairs.

Doing well! Just moved, so house moving has taken a lot of time. Only moved a few miles north to be closer to the kid’s school. I lurk a lot, but haven’t posted much.

Ill admit, a friend of mine got an 88 Olds back in college, and even at 20 odd years old, the ride was an experience.

Back when my parents were still together, my Dad drove around in a used 1989 Mercedes Benz 560 SEL. Thing was as unreliable as you’d expect a used German car to be. But man oh man were those rear seats comfortable. They reclined (60/40 split at that!), were heated, full leather everything. And so much leg room! Looked just like this:

I used to have a Volvo S40(second gen). I once drove it 12 hours in a day stopping only for gas and by the end I felt less sore than I would after an hour and a half drive in my current e36 would. If you want to cruise I don’t think anything matches a Volvo for simply being a nice place to spend 12 hours.

I have owned one Volvo(‘05 S40) and will also agree with your statement. Sold it because I just can’t enjoy an automatic but if I found a V50 T5 with a stick I think my E36 would have to make way.

For as crappy as the rest of the interiors were, GM seats from that era rocked. I still miss our Trailblazer as a commuter, one of the most comfortable pieces of shit I’ve ever ridden in.

I see a lot of Volvo in these comments... I concur. I’ve got a MY13 S60 (pretty sure they’re the same seats in the XC70's mentioned below.)
